How we started Thistle and Cloth

Our journey began with a deep love for Scotland’s majestic Highlands and a desire to share its beauty. As a former military musician with 13 years of dedicated service, I transitioned my passion for Scotland’s heritage into a love for fabric, sewing, and garment design. My family, including two young children, and I embarked on an adventure fuelled by a profound connection to Scotland’s culture and landscape.

Drawing upon my background in garment construction and design, I blend tradition with innovation to create unique pieces that capture the essence of Scottish style. Each stitch tells a story of dedication and craftsmanship, weaving together threads of heritage and contemporary flair.

Since 2021, I have studied at the Keith Kilt and Textile Centre under the renowned tutor Linda Gillies.

Kilt Alterations

Here at Thistle and Cloth, we believe that a kilt should last more than a lifetime; it’s a really special moment when a grandad proudly passes his kilt onto his grandson! Whatever the reasons behind this, I can offer alterations to let out or take in a kilt to fit; new straps or adding a hem are some of the frequent solutions. Sometimes, it can be as simple as moving a buckle, but more complex alterations can also be carried out if necessary!
